  • This ticket is for all IPS members except student members.
  • This ticket is for IPS Student members and other students only. (Status and elegibility will be checked).
  • This limited availability ticket is for students who are willing to provide some work for the IPS at the event. (Status and elegibility will be checked).
  • This ticket is for members of recognised sound Guilds and Associations (AMPS/ASDP/MPG/ISCVE/SoundGirls/WFTV). (Elegibility will be checked).
  • This is a full price ticket for anybody who is not elegible for IPS or Guild membership discounts or concessions.
  • This ticket is for attendance by IPS members and non-members on both days and includes: attendance at all sessions, support materials, lunch each day, refreshments, car parking. This ticket does NOT include accomodation, breakfasts or evening meals.

SESSION PROGRAMME (the session order and final content is to be confirmed)

Setting up a desk  Want to know how to configure a desk in a hurry? Watch Antony Shaw, Sound Supervisor from Spiritland, configure an SSL mixing desk from scratch ready for a music session, covering the key points and short cuts.

Spatial Audio Microphone Techniques  Dr Russell Mason, Senior Lecturer on the Tonmeister Course at University of Surrey, will take us through different mic set-ups for capturing spatial audio, with practical demos of music, atmospheres and sports event recordings

Smart Cinema  Dubbing Mixer Andrew Wilson is part of an innovative research project at Bristol University that used an advanced sound capture setup (including a PCMA-3D mic rig) to record sound during two live music performances for playback in the university's purpose built 'Smart Cinema'. Andrew will discuss the concept and workflow of the project and delve into the Pro Tools session to show how he created a Dolby Atmos mix to recreate, as faithfully as possible, the live-audience experience.

Theatre Sound Design   Award winning Sound Designer Emma Laxton, will describe the process for planning and executing the sound design for a modern theatrical production and how to translate that to Digital Theatre.

The Good, the Bad and the Dante - Dante in a practical setting  Technical Guru Mike Ransome of Everything Audio has built numerous Dante rigs for many TV shows. In this session he will show us some good practices, some less so, and a few common 'gotchas' that might turn things a bit ugly.

In-car microphone rigs   How do you rig a travelling car with 4 people and no crew in sight? Location Recordist Nick Olorenshaw (Grand Tour and Clarkson's Farm) on how to rig different vehicles for the best results. Covering mic choices and placement, monitoring and comms.

Location & post collaboration - ‘Earthsounds’   Ellie Williams, Sound Recordist & Jonny Crew, Sound Editor & Dubbing Mixer, will talk about their roles on the award winning series 'Earthsounds' and how they collaborated from pre-production through to post.

Can you hear me now? - Comms Systems  It's that Mike Ransome again, who will run us through some of the common terms, what they mean and the methods used to achieve them.

As well as the full weekend programme of talks to educate and entertain you, there will be breakout rooms including a spatial audio listening room plus audio manufacturers and dealers, along with a lounge and bar areas to socialise and network with friends and colleagues.

If you are self-employed the costs for attendance (including travel) can be set as a CPD business expense against your end of year tax bill.
If you are an employee
we feel sure that your employer will appreciate the benefit to the company knowledge base of allowing you to attend. The costs can, likewise, be set against any company training budget.


Should you wish to be accompanied by a partner, to share your accomodation, there will be a modest half-board upgrade charge to cover breakfast and dinner, etc. This charge will need to be paid directly to the UoW at check-in. Advance notice is required and so please contact the organisers if you want to take advantage of this offer. There is plenty for a partner to do and visit in the local area, whilst you are fully engaged during the day.
